Explorer Stage

From task thinking to business thinking.

Explorer is the first of five career stages in the CapabilityVision™ framework, built for early-career professionals establishing themselves as reliable contributors. Typically 0 to 3 years in, they own tasks and deliverables inside a defined process, with no one yet reporting to them.

How Explorer Stage Is Structured

Four phases, each building on the one before it.

Every Explorer module follows the same four-phase structure, detailed below.
Each phase builds your judgment and skill on what you've already practiced, the same way business judgment develops on the job.

01
Core Concepts
Each module opens with foundational concepts tied to its own capability pillar, building the vocabulary and mental models for that subject area. Across Explorer's six modules, all six pillars are covered, 42 concepts in all. Each one closes with an Assessment.
02
Progressive Exercises
You'll work through three progressive workplace scenarios that build on Core Concepts, such as mapping a business function to the work it supports, tracing a problem back to its root cause, or working out how to pull a team together. Across Explorer's six modules, that's 18 exercises in all. Each exercise closes with an Assessment.
03
Progressive Case Studies
Three business scenarios (Structured, Semi-Structured, Unstructured) that grow more ambiguous as you go: combining multiple concepts, sorting through competing perspectives, and reaching your own conclusions with progressively less guidance. Across Explorer's six modules, that's 18 case studies in all. Each case study closes with an Assessment.
04
Module Application Assessment
Everything you've practiced across the module comes together in one integrated capstone scenario, deliberately built with both important information and everyday distractors. Across Explorer's six modules, that's six capstone assessments in all. Each is a graded 20-question assessment (80% to pass), where you apply what you've learned by separating what matters from the distractors and choosing the strongest response.
Questions

Before you start.

Do I need any business background to start?
No. Explorer is the first of five career stages in the CapabilityVision™ framework, built for exactly this starting point: understanding how organizations work and how individual contributions connect to results.
What do I get when I enroll in Explorer Stage?
Full access to all six Explorer modules under one enrollment, each following the same four-phase structure described above. All six modules are open from day one, at no additional cost, so there is nothing extra to buy along the way. We suggest taking them in sequence, Module 1 through Module 6.

CapabilityVision™ is built to develop real skill, not memorization, so every module ends with a Practice Guide. It is a downloadable PDF that turns what you learned into something you keep doing at work: a weekly practice rhythm, five on-the-job routines, a working template, and a self-check to re-rate yourself at 30, 90 and 180 days. The course builds the skill. The Practice Guide is how you keep exercising and expanding it long after you finish.
Can I take the modules in any order?
Yes. All six modules are open from day one, and nothing locks you out of a module until you finish another. We recommend working through them in order, Module 1 through Module 6, because that is the sequence the stage was designed around. If you'd rather follow your own priorities, start wherever you like. To earn the certification, you'll complete all six.
How long do I have access to the course?
You have 180 days of access starting on the day you enroll. For individual purchases, that is the day you buy. Your progress is saved, and your certification is yours to keep once you've earned it. Access for corporate teams is arranged case by case as part of your organization's agreement; see the corporate path to start that conversation.
How is Explorer different from a typical online course?
Each phase builds your judgment rather than testing recall. Questions are built around realistic scenarios and case studies, and each module's capstone assessment asks you to apply what you've practiced, not repeat it back.
Is there a credential when I finish Explorer?
Yes. Completing all six Explorer modules, including each module's capstone assessment, earns the CapabilityVision™ Explorer certification, the credential that marks Stage Mastery before you move on to Builder.
Is this for individuals, or for my whole team?
Both. CapabilityVision™ supports an individual path and a corporate path built around the same five stages and six pillars. See the CapabilityVision™ home page for how the two differ.
Not sure Explorer is the right stage?
Take the stage preview quiz. It's six short questions about how you approach work, no email required, and it points you to the stage worth exploring first. It's a quick preview, not an official placement.
Can I use this for continuing education credits?
Many professional certifications let you report relevant learning toward renewal. For example, PMI allows certification holders such as PMP holders to self-report courses as Education PDUs, and each stage here is about 24 hours of learning across business acumen, execution, communication, leadership, and personal effectiveness. When you finish, you receive a certificate of completion with your name, the course, and the completion date. Requirements and what counts vary by certification, and CapabilityVision™ is not pre-approved by any certifying body, so confirm with your certifying body that it counts toward your renewal, and keep your certificate. Claim the time you actually spend.
How much does it cost?
The price is shown at the top of this page. Prices are in US dollars and are one-time payments, plus applicable sales tax. Any tax is calculated at checkout based on your location.
Do you offer refunds?
No. Because you get full access to the course as soon as you enroll, all purchases are final and we don’t offer refunds after purchase. Please review the stage overview and course outline on this page before you enroll. If you have a question first, email [email protected].
I see “Something went wrong” in my course. What should I do?
Click Try again first. If the message stays, open your course in a private or incognito window. If it works there, clear your browser’s cache and cookies for capabilityvision.com, then sign in again. Signing out and back in alone usually does not fix it. If the problem continues, email [email protected] with the course name, the lesson, and the time you saw the message.
